Patrick and Herb

I was honored to be asked to photograph my brother-in-law Patrick's wedding to his husband Herb. They started with a ceremony in August in Davenport, IA. It was a beautiful cermony in a gazebo situated right on the Mississippi. They then returned to Chicago at the beginning of September to have an awesome reception at the Bottom Lounge, a rock club located on the west side of the city. It was very family and friend-centric and they even closed the night out with karaoke for everyone!

Steve and Cindy

Steve and Cindy were married in their backyard on a piece of property that Steve also farms on. There was a ton of beautiful, natural settings to use and we even got to get a picture of them on a HUGE combine together! They had a great tent set up for the ceremony and reception and spent the evening dancing and reminicing with their closest friends and family.

The Engagement Session Experience

  • Published August 23rd, 2012 by Al Behnke

We're often asked to do engagement sessions for couples well in advance of their wedding date. All of our wedding coverages come with a complimentary engagement session, which serves as a really great way for us and the couple to get to know each other before their wedding. The engagement session is usually a fairly loose and informal session where we try and capture the couple's personalities. The images we capture can then be used for Save The Date cards or magnets, display prints at the reception, or in custom 'Memory Books' that incorporate the images to create one-of-a-kind guest books.

We're always available to do engagement sessions regardless of booking a wedding photo package, so don't hesitate to call if you're looking for a great way to capture some beautiful images before your wedding day!

What Exactly is a 'Pre-Bridal Session?'

  • Published August 21st, 2012 by Al Behnke

All of our wedding packages come with a complimentary engagement or pre-bridal session. A lot of people ask us what the pre-bridal session entails, so I figured I'd take a moment to explain:

A pre-bridal session is really a way for you to come in and work with our photographers on a high-end, creative, and artistic series of images of you in your wedding dress before the big day. From fun and relaxed to high-art, there's no ceiling for how creative you can get! It's also a great way for you to get used to being photographed in your wedding dress. You can get accustomed to how to move and pose so that you'll be even more relaxed getting photographed on your wedding day.

A lot of brides are also jumping at the 'Trash the Dress' trend. Obviously, this shouldn't apply to your actual wedding dress!!! But it's common for a bride find a dress similar to their actual dress in a less-expensive version to use for pre-bridal and trash the dress sessions. It's all in the details and has to be planned meticulously in advance, but the results can be truly awesome!

I photographed the bride above in New Orleans and was able to do some cool pre-bridal images, but she was also game to have us cover her in paint for a really crazy and artistic series.

Pre-bridal images make great gifts to your parents or fiancee on the day of the wedding, and allow you to capture the beauty of your dress in a truly relaxed manner.
